Wet Felting Basics

  • Sandy Spring Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends 17801 Meeting House Rd Sandy Spring United States (map)

In this one day workshop you will learn the basic techniques of using water, heat and manipulation to turn wool fluff into beautiful and sturdy fabric. This is an ancient practice with a modern twist and it  reminds us that wool felt is probably the oldest form textile humans have made.

You will learn about several different breeds of sheep and the wool they produce, different kinds of wool preparation and why wool felts in the first place. All of this through learning the important practice of creating samples of a controlled size to understand the medium and what you can do with it.

Participants need only to bring two bath towels and a hand towel.  All other materials are provided, and you will go home with a complete kit of tools and three samples to start your collection!
